The 2025 World series was able to throw baseball enthusiasts into an adrenaline filled spectacle, and as the defending champions the Los Angeles Dodgers edged the Toronto Blue Jays in a bruising seven game series so they could eventually claim back to back championship titles. This series will definitely go down in history not only for the dramatic hits and clutch moments but also because of the resilience of both ball clubs and that determination to be written in the history books.
The Dodgers already entered the aries as established heavyweight competitors who were fresh off a world series win in 2024. They have built a strong roster that has been built on experience and depth, and have been determined to make franchise history by winning consecutive championships.
On the other side, the blue jays have been represented in both hope and renewal. Toronto has not been able to win the world series since its back to back victories in 1992-92, and in this year’s team the roster has appeared to shatter the long drought. Their offense has completely surged, their bullpen has been able to hold firm, and they have been able to earn the American League Pennant with great conviction.
Every game the series was swinging like a pendulum. The Blue Jays grabbed an early advantage, the Dodgers rallied and the Jays were able to fight back. Both teams left everything on the field. Game 3 has stood out as one of the longest games in Fall Classic history. After 18 innings of baseball and nearly 6hrs and 40mins, the Dodgers were able to beat the Blue Jays 6-5 on a walk off home run by Freddie Freeman. It was tied for the longest inning game and became the second longest by duration. And by the time Game 7 came up both clubs were so emotionally and physically drained.
When talking to Saugus student Derek DeLeo he said “this world series was one for the books”, saying how “every minute of it was must watch tv and [he] is beyond excited that the dodgers were able to pull the victory away and defend the pennent.”
In game 7, the blue jays carried the momentum, they had led through 3-0 after a humongous three run homer by Bo Bichette in the third inning. The Dodgers didn’t lose faith though, they kept chipping away at the lead and stayed alive with their postseason hopes. And with two outs in the top of the ninth the Dodgers veteran Miguel Rojas smashed a solo home run that tied the game in the ninth inning of Game 7. Then in the 11th inning the moment the game was almost fully sealed, Will Smith sent a go ahead home run for Los Angeles, the first extra inning walk off homer in a Game 7 world series game. Finally, the Dodgers bullpen showed up. Their ace pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto entered on short rest, and had completely shut down Toronto’s threat on offense, which had earned the World Series MVP honors. The Dodgers were able to claim the series 4-3 and they became the first team in 25 years to win back to back championships and have been the third franchise to ever even achieve a repeat in the modern era.
This was way more than a World Series. It was a competitive battle to the end on the diamond. The Dodgers victory was able to confirm their elite status as a dynasty team. And although the blue jays came up short of the win they were able to prove that they do belong in the title conversation. With the game of Baseball it is sure to collect unpredictable swings and crucial moments, once again the Fall Classic delivered.
