The 2025-2026 NBA season has been set to be an exciting season of the most anticipated seasons in recent memory. With a mix of superstars and young talent emerging the league’s landscape has changed. From the defending champs looking forward to continuing their dominance to rising teams looking to have a breakthrough performance, there have been plenty of intriguing campaigns being made by teams. And as the season nears, it’s time to break down the key storylines including which teams to watch, and the individual players that will be shaping the 2025-2026 NBA season.
The Oklahoma City Thunder are entering the 2025 – 2026 season as the NBA’s defending champions, a remarkable rise from the youngest team in the league. Led by Shai Gilgeous- Alexander, who has earned the Finals MVP honors, and Chet Holmgren, who has been a defensive powerhouse, OKC’s journey from rebuild to winners has been shaping the rest of the league’s front offices.
Gilgeous-Alexander, who is now firmly in the MVP conversation, led the Thunder with a certain poise that has not been seen before, his scoring versatility, and his elite shot creation has set him apart from the rest of the league. Holmgren’s rim protection and floor spacing have been crucial in the postseason, while Jalen WIlliams, Josh Giddey, and Lu Dort have been able to round out the highly versatile and selfless position. OKC is a deep, young and improving team and they have made it known that they are not going anywhere. And with draft capital and development of younger players still going on they may just be at the beginning of a dynasty
While the thunder are the team to beat, plenty of other teams have revamped themselves gearing up for a title run. The Los Angeles Lakers who are maybe experiencing Lebron James final season, and the lakers are going all in with a newly acquire of Luka Doncic who has cemented himself as one of the best players in the league and with the supporting cast of Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, and Deandre Ayton the Lakers are serious contenders. Although Health remains their biggest question mark they are fully aware that their championship window isn’t closed.
The Denver Nuggets still remain elite, with arguably the best player in the world in Nikola Jokic and familiar faces with Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordan and Bruce Brown. But after a long postseason and losing some key pieces like Micheal Porter Jr, will they still have enough to regain the throne?
When talking to NBA fan Ethan Lozin he said he was beyond excited for this upcoming season, saying how being able to see so many stars compete is so entertaining, he talked about his excitement of seeing lebron playing in potentially his last year and watching his farewell tour. He wants the Warriors to win it all but will be happy to see great basketball being played if the warriors can’t pull it off.
In the east the Celtics are looking to make a push and although they lost star player Jayson Tatum they still have Jaylen Brown who is looking to take a big step forward and with an acquisition of Anfernee Simons this group of players are looking to hold it down in Tatum’s absence.
The 2025 – 2026 NBA season will definitely be one to watch as it will be the most competitive title race in recent memory, with a new champion is Oklahoma City, and aging legends fighting to get a ring with more international superstars defying the game there’s not one shortage of drama. And whether you’re wanting to see the Thunder defend their title, or to witness the rise of Victor Wembanyama, or to say a final goodbye to Lebron James; the race to the finals begins now.
