Protesting is a common way to show your voice, your beliefs, and to fight against oppression like in the past. Now, in LA, myriads of protesters appeared against the Immigration Custom Enforcement, or known as ICE. We have also seen more protesters appear, specifically about the event happening in Iran, with the mass amount of deaths occurring in this new year. Let’s talk about it, the specific details, and all about why the protesting happened in the first place.
ICE has been known to be a brutal system, taking immigrants out of the states and separating families, tearing them apart. Protesters fought against these policies and the agents; innocent lives had been taken alongside citizens being harassed and bombarded. There has been one victim that stood out, with the shooting of Renee Good, which increased the amounts of anti-ice protesting this month in January. Protesting also honored the lives lost, including Good, to recognize the violence happening within the country. It also honored many other citizens who were victims, such as Keith Porter Jr, who was killed by an off-duty ICE agent. ICE has been fairly active in California in general, causing protestings to rise in LA, one of the biggest known cities there. As there are anti-ice protests, there are also protestings siding with Trump and his administrations that have appeared throughout the state.
A student from Saugus, Mikayla Elise Blakely, had explained she had seen ice protests in our town as well, and how protesting is a common thing to do when fighting for rights and justice.
Iran has had numerous casualties this 2026 already, and there have been multiple protests regarding this issue. Many Iranian LA citizens have shown their stance and their feelings, how they are afraid of their family and their concern about the amount of deaths that have occurred throughout Iran. With the war and things being difficult with the U.S and Iran, citizens have been doubting their safety living here. California holds many Iranian citizens, so having protests in the big city of LA about the conflict is common.
Across SoCal, there have been multiple sightings of LA protesting against the ICE raids all across America. Many people of different ages and groups had participated in a protest called the Free America Walkout in protest of Trump’s inauguration, with people walking out of class and work to protest.
