When you’re in high school or college, studies can become a real challenge. From finishing all of your homework, to studying for tests, it’s important to develop good study habits. There are different ways to make sure you are doing well with school while not stressing so much.
One way to set up for success is to pay attention in class. When in class, it’s important to listen to what the teacher is saying and to take good notes. Senior Yazzy Manzano talks about what she does: “Usually, when I study, I do flash cards, because I think that’s the best way to remember, because you have to write it down, so that helps memorize it. Also, reviewing it makes it really easy. I use, like, all my notes to make my flashcards, and like any important info, like projects we have to do. I use Quizlet to help study.” At home, reviewing notes from class is a good way to retain information you missed in class. It’s also a great idea to take practice tests based on what you learned in class and teach what you learned to others so that the information sticks in your mind. By doing this, learning different subjects can be easier to memorize.
Another way to set up for success is to make a schedule. A schedule can help students organize their activities. Sophomore Alyssia Deguzman explains how she manages her time: “I do tennis and ASB. Just once I get home, I just do all my homework after practice. Don’t go on your phone. Don’t procrastinate, put it away.” Students might have extracurricular activities after school, so it’s sometimes challenging to find time to do their work. Organizing your schedule and learning time management skills can help you feel less stressed. Not having a schedule and trying to cram everything in your head can be really messy, and can make you easily forgetful about important deadlines or due dates, so it is a good idea to have one just in case.
School can be stressful when thinking about when to study for tests or quizzes and figuring out when to find time after doing activities. But, learning time management and finding ways to study to better understand school work helps students feel less preoccupied with school and extracurricular activities.
