At Saugus High School, where pride and determination is constantly being shown through every student’s actions, one name continuously stands out in the crowd. Micheal Mosby the starting center last year for the Saugus High School Basketball team, and a major player on the varsity team this year, Michael has become a cornerstone of a program, known not only for his scoring and rebounding ability but also for his immense leadership he shows and the spirit he displays immense leadership and the upbringing spirit he brings has never been doubted he brings it to every game, practice, and classroom he enters.
Standing tall at 6 ‘2, Michael’s presence on the court is impossible to ignore, but what makes him special is more than his athletic ability, it’s his mindset. Coaches describe him always as one of the fiercest competitors who is always trying his best to give all his effort and whether it’s diving for a loose ball or fighting for a rebound, or even setting his teammate for an easy basket, Micheal is always there. His consistent double doubles have continuously helped his team out.Michael is always quick to credit his success to his teammates.
His humility and team – first attitude have made him a highly respected player and leader both on and off the court. With teammates who often point to his calm confidence during high pressure moments and his natural ability to rally his team’s energy whenever it starts to dip. Whether he’s on the bench motivating others or during a timeout encouraging a teammate during the game, Micheals leadership sets the tone for Saugus Basketball.
Being a student athlete isn’t easy and machines know that all too well. Between early morning practices or late night games and even long study sessions being able to find a balance between all of this is a different type of discipline and focus, two qualities es has consistently worked hard to master. Teachers have always described him as a dedicated student who has approached the court with a head high.
Interview:When asking Micheal some questions I wanted to know how he holds his teammates accountable? He responded saying,”by knowing that we’re only as strong as our weakest link and if my teammates can’t trust me on and off the court then they can’t trust me during games in big moments.How did you get first into basketball, and what inspired you to stick with it? “In middle school my friends were always playing basketball and I would play with them and as I joined teams and played with other people I kept wanting to do it more. What does a perfect off day look like for your players? Just having an open day, being able to sleep, get together with guys, get some food and chill.
Micheal’s favorite subjects include history and English, and he’s passionate about learning how lessons from the past can help build his future. He plans to continue this education after high school, with high hopes of playing college ball or even studying something in the sports world.His long term dream? To inspire the next generation.
