The role of student body president is often overlooked; however it plays a crucial role in schools world-wide. At Saugus were stacked with a president and a vice president for almost every class.

As the new school year begins, Junior body president Maddy Cornish has a clear vision of what lies ahead. “My vision is for us to have a year where everyone feels included, connected, and proud of our class and make this a year we will all remember.”
In order to make her vision a reality Maddy is “planning a variety of events, listen to students feedback, and make sure everyone knows what’s happening so no one feels left out”, by keeping close ties with the student body, and maintaining good communication Maddy is ensuring that everyone has a shot at participating.
Maddy thinks it’s important to have students engaged, so when asked what steps she would take if she noticed students weren’t as involved she said she would “start by talking to students to find out why they’re not engaged, then plan events that match their interests. I’d also make sure to promote activities better and encourage more student involvement so everyone feels welcome to join.” With this inclusive train of thought Maddy is ensuring all students are gonna feel full of school spirit.
Maddy herself is involved in extracurricular activities like Saugus’ Cheer team, when asked how she balances her time she gives great advice, like “I make sure to prioritize tasks, set aside dedicated time for schoolwork and activities, and make sure im available for my responsibilities as president without letting anything fall behind.” Maddy is really just proof you can do it all!
It’s clear that Maddy Cornish has a set plan for the future student body and activities at Saugus. With her focus on school pride, inclusion and building relationships with students she’s ready to make this year full of memories.
