The first person to ask to drop a class is your counselor. For example, if you need to drop an elective, tell him/her that you want to drop your class and they will help you figure it out. For this quarter, the deadline is September 9, 2024, so if you need to drop a class, do it next quarter. Only drop a class when it is really hard for you and you cannot handle it. Do not drop a class because you want to. You cannot drop a class that is a standard class, but you can drop Honors or AP. Before dropping a class, make sure a parent/guardian knows.
In an interview with one of the counselor, Mr. Fricke, he mentioned that anything about your schedule you should go to a counselor. Fort the first question Mr. Fricke does not necessarily think it is difficult for students to drop classes it depends on the class you are dropping. If you are dropping a regular class like Algebra, you cannot because that is a standard class. For the second question, He encourages students to take a full schedule and not do the bare minimum. For the third question, he said to come talk to your counselor and find an alternative class. For the last question, he said to have the mentality to go through it when joining something and to commit for the season or time frame you said.
If you want to switch classes you could also talk to your counselor. For example, if you need to switch an AP class to a regular class then talk to your counselor, find the class you want in your schedule, and your done. Switching classes is similar to dropping a class, but there’s a difference. When switching a class you can change into AP or Honors, but you can also change AP or Honors to regular classes. Also let your parent/guardian know if your switching classes.
If you want to have an open period, you should also ask your counselor. You need to have at least five or four classes here and one at COC. During an open period, you can spend however you want to spend it. Having an open period means that a student did not select a class and instead had an open time during the school day. You can have a free period any year, such as your freshman year, your sophomore year, etc. I recommend an open period because it can help you have a healthier year, but academically and mentally.
