For Saugus High, school is out on May 31, so that’s when summer starts! Summer is a time for warm weather, swimming pools, beaches, hanging out with friends and family, tanning, and vacations. People can either go locally or out of state. Places friends and families go to are beaches like Carpinteria, Malibu, Point Dume, and Huntington. Other spots are more expensive and take some planning, but they are out of the country or state. Places like Florida, the Bahamas, Hawaii, Mexico, and Greece. 

Carpinteria 

You will see people there from all sorts of schools around SCV. If people go to the beach, it will most likely be there. At Carpinteria, there are small beach shops where you can walk around. There are also cafes and restaurants around if you get hungry. The sun is always shining and warm, perfect to get a tan. Junior Madi Estes says “My favorite part is the tanning, getting burgers from The Spot, and snow cones from the snow cone lady in her cart. The weather is always sunny and warm. I go very often, especially over summer and spring break.” The Spot is an American fast food place that serves lunch and dinner with features like takeout and outdoor seating.

Point Dume

Point Dume is a beach in Malibu. This is known for its tall cliffs and clear waters. It is a perfect spot for swimming, sunbathing, and hanging out with friends. There is also a famous staircase that leads you right down to the beach. It offers an ocean view and gets better and better as you go down. It also is a great place for photos! Photo

There are out-of-state and countries you can go to as well. It takes planning and lots of money, but still fun even if you just go for a weekend. 

Hawaii

Hawaii is a common out-of-state vacation. Many families usually go there for around a week. There are many different islands to visit like Kauai, Maui, O’ahu, and Molokini. On O’ahu, there is a resort called Aulani, where you can have different activities included in your stay like Pau Hana Room where you can make your own Mickey ears, learn to play the ‘ukelele, and learn how to paint. On the island of Kaui, you can go ATV riding, a tubing tour, a Jurassic Park ATV tour, or a snorkel tour with lunch. Also if you are hungry there are always luaus around Hawaii. 

Florida  

Florida is best known for Disney World, their beaches, and Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay. When people visit Florida they go to Disney World. Disney World has all the different parks like Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios, and if you want to go shopping there is Disney Springs. Animal Kingdom provides different parts of the park like Pandora – The World of Avatar, which has rides like the Flight of Passage and Navi River Journey. In Asia, there is Expedition Everest and Kali River Rapids. In Magic Kingdom has Disney characters, special events, tours, restaurants, and shopping centers. There are also different types of attractions like the new ride, Tron, Big Thunder Mountain, and Haunted Mansion. Epcot has all the different parts of the world and you can try new foods from that country. Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Morocco, Japan, the United States, Italy, Germany, China, Norway, and Mexico are all provided in Epcot. Freshman Peyton Pressler says “I love Animal Kingdom and the Kilimanjaro safari also the avatar ride and I really want to do Expedition Everest but still haven’t had a chance to ride it. I love Hollywood Studios tower of terror is fun so is the slinky dog Dash then if you go to Epcot Soarin is one of my favorite rides ever”
