Deftones yet again, dropped a new album. Being known for their Hard Rock music, lead singer Chino Moreno formed the group around 1988. Later on through the early 2000s, they started making a big change in their fanbase, drawing them in from their song “White Pony.” After their breakthrough and gain of fame, social media platforms, like Tiktok and Instagram started lifting the band even more. With 16,413,592 monthly listeners, Deftones is currently and continues to be a well known band recognized for their deep lyrics and unique impact in the music industry.
The album, private music holds 11 songs, and began to climb the charts when it was released on August 22, 2025. The song names being, my mind is a mountain, locked club, ecdysis, infinite source, souvenir, cXz, i think about you all the time, milk of the madonna, cut hands, ~metal dream, and departing the body. The album has a repetitive theme of “inner struggle” and “mental battles.” Songs like my mind is a mountain demonstrates struggle and mental battles with lyrics, “negative space cycles”, “and my heart’s entrenched”, and even “destroying our mental, remains in our conscious.”
So far, the song milk of the madonna has been the most listened to on the album. Talking about floods, fires, and destruction. Lyrics hold hidden meanings like “bloody rain” creating a secret message of something bigger than one’s self can imagine. Another popular song in the album is infinite source. Some fans of the song came to the conclusion that this song is about the lead singer, Chino Moreno’s journey with sobriety. The lyrics of the song hold a meaning of celebration due to the fact of his upgraded performances on stage while being sober. One of the reasons Deftones is so popular, their way of mixing emotions reflecting on real life scenarios really draws a listen into their music.

How long have you been listening to Deftones?
“Not long, I started listening to them in like 2022. But I’ve listened to them ever since. I found them on tiktok and I just loved the genre.”
What is your favorite song on the new album?
“I really like cXz. The beat and lyrics are really catchy and I’ve listened to it on repeat forever. I also really like infinite source. That one is actually really good too.”
Have you or do you plan on going to one of their concerts?
“I have actually been to one of their concerts. I went with my dad and brother and it was so fun. It was one of the best nights ever and I’ll never forget it. I want to go back so bad, and I’m trying to convince my dad to take me next year.”
What were your opinions on the album?
“I honestly really enjoyed it. Not my favorite out of all of their albums, but I love that I now have some new songs to listen to.”
Deftones will always be a fan favorite for their Hard Rock tunes. By staying active and interactive with their fans only makes them grow a bigger community. With more albums to drop, Deftones continues to wow their fans with more things to look forward to in the future.
