Spirit Week is an awesome and lively tradition that brings students together to celebrate school spirit and unleash their creativity! Each day of the week has its fun theme, and students get to dress up according to that theme, expressing their uniqueness while diving into the shared excitement. Whether it’s rocking school colors, dressing as twins, or getting imaginative with costumes, Spirit Week gives everyone the chance to break out of their normal style and show off their love for the school. It’s an amazing way to foster friendships, lift spirits, and sprinkle a bit of extra fun into the everyday school routine. With a variety of themes, there’s always something new to enjoy, making Spirit Week a standout moment of the school year. Let’s take a look at some Saugus High School students’ favorite days!
Twin Day was a highlight of Winter Formal Spirit Week, with students showing off their best matching outfits. The school was filled with creative takes on the theme, from funny duos to perfectly coordinated looks. I had the chance to interview my Twin Day partner, about our experience dressing alike. Senior-year student at Saugus High School, Quinn Powell, Says that he enjoyed and had fun trying to pick out an outfit. “I thought it was fun! It’s not every day you get to match outfits with someone, and it made the whole day feel more exciting” said Powell. Finding matching outfits can be hard, but going with a theme can inspire many outfits. Powell says he and his partner wanted something simple but still cute, so they wore Saugus High School’s classic Navy blue color with black bottoms. It was an easy choice but still looked great! Some people may think Spirit Week is just something silly and may be embarrassed to participate, but according to Powell “It makes the school day feel way less routine. Instead of just another Tuesday, we got to do something different and have fun with it. Seeing everyone else participate made it even better.”
Day five: Class Colors
At Saugus High School, each different grade has its own color that is worn during spirit week. Navy belongs to freshmen, sophomores wear white, juniors in gray, and light blue belongs to seniors! At the Winter formal rally, students got to show school spirit by wearing their class colors.
Rally day
Rally day is one of the most thrilling highlights of Spirit Week, happening on Friday during brunch in the gym. This energetic event brings students together to ignite their excitement for an upcoming major school occasion — Winter Formal! The rally is jam-packed with games, competitions, and activities that fuel school pride and team spirit. Whether you’re cheering on class representatives, diving into fun challenges, or simply soaking in the vibrant atmosphere, Rally Day truly sets the stage for the big weekend ahead. It’s the perfect moment for students to unite, showcase their school spirit, and get hyped for what’s coming, all while bonding with friends and classmates. Both senior year students at Saugus High School, George Vail, and Audrey Rieckhoff, proudly took the crown as this year’s Winter Formal King and Queen. They both got to make up a dance and practice it during 4th period before the rally. “At first, we both didn’t love the idea of doing it in front of the whole school, but in the moment it was super fun,” said Vail. Both Vail and Rieckhoff have been in Saugus Theatre since freshman year. Could the performance in theatre help them in the rally? “I think being in theatre helped a little bit with dancing because we are both used to getting up in front of everyone and performing so it was less nerve-racking than the average person,” said Rieckhoff. If any of them were to give any advice, it would be to never stress out about the handshake, it is a lot of fun so just go out and have an amazing time with it because it may never happen again.
Formal day
The Winter formal dance was held on Saturday, February 8th. Many Saugus High School students showed up in their best formal attire in attendance for the school dance! A dj played songs that all the students had a great time dancing too. In addition, food was sold to students outside of the gym for only $1 or $2. Students had plenty of options to choose from, there was pizza, nachos, ramen noodles, lemonade, water, hot chocolate, and a large selection of free candy that they could fill into a small bag! Nearing the end of the dance, all of the students who were nominated
