With the goal of helping students find their own style and discover new styles, Saugus High School’s Fashion Magazine Club encourages self expression through fashion and provides a safe space for students to fully embrace their own style. On the club’s Instagram @saugusfashionmagazine, they link a digital magazine every month showcasing different trendy clothes and styles for anyone to view. In the Fashion Magazine Club, individuals get to meet up and discuss their opinions on current fashion trends, get interviewed on their personal style, create vision boards about their personal fashion styles, and even become potential models for photoshoots directed by the club’s president.
For the modeling process, you must sign a google form prior to showing up and there is a date set for students to meet in a classroom during lunch, ideally wearing all black. They will take headshots and fill out a form, and eventually models will be casted. Allowing students to model for a photoshoot is another unique experience the Fashion Magazine Club provides, and truly shows the capabilities and ambition of Saugus’ student body for having numerous individuals work together on such a huge project.
The most recent photoshoot consisted of a Spring and Summer theme with the serene environment and bright colors. The clothes featured in the photoshoot were sponsored by the brand Chance Vintage, a brand that sells recycled modern and vintage clothing, making them a very ethical and sustainable brand. The concept behind this photoshoot was that you can find your own unique style even by thrifting or reusing and designing old clothes to better suit your taste.

Natalia Chacon, currently a senior and president of the Fashion Magazine Club, founded the club to recreate a similar environment to working in the fashion industry: “I started this club because I want to give students a small insight into what the fashion world is like. I wanted students to find confidence in their style and in the work they design in the club.” With wanting to recreate a professional workspace environment, the club members work in a team with set deadlines for their projects just like they would working in the fashion industry professionally. All the club members contribute to working on the magazine editing and helping out on set at photoshoots. Chacon enjoys running the club and being around her club members that are also very invested in the art of fashion, she states, “This club brings me joy, seeing students having fun designing their vision boards or magazine articles.”
The Fashion Magazine Club is truly a unique community at Saugus High School, not only providing a safe space for all students to express themselves freely with their unique styles, but also providing students with experience to prepare them for the professional workplace by building up their creative abilities and time management skills.
