The new year has started and Starbucks has launched a new variety of drinks and foods to their menu. Founded by Gerald Baldwin, this go to coffee staple has been around for years. As Starbucks brings out their new “Winter Favorites” features they also bring out the cozy and comfort feeling of this season.

One of Starbucks new upgrades this year is updating their matcha to a more rich premium quality. This now makes the matcha sweetness customizable with either added cold foam or syrups. You can get this drink poured over ice, as a matcha latte with steamed milk, or even a frappuccino.

Another drink that Starbucks added to their menu is the Cortado. This hot served coffee is an exciting new addition to Starbucks coffee options. It includes three ristretto shots, blond espresso, poured over hot and steamed milk. Their other new drink is a Brown Sugar Oat milk Cortado. Similar to the regular Cortado this drink is hot and just adds in oat milk, cinnamon, and brown sugar syrup. Making it more sweet because of the milk and syrup but of course it can be adjusted to anyone’s liking.

The last two drink additions to Starbucks featured menu are the Pistachio Latte and the Pistachio Cream Cold Brew. The pistachio latte consists of pistachio flavoring, espresso, a brown buttery-topping all poured over steamed milk. Unlike Pistachio Cream, Cold Brew uses vanilla syrup to sweeten the cold brew and pistachio cream cold foam topped with brown-buttery sprinkles. As for all beverages these can both be customized to your liking like iced, light ice, or hot, and extra hot.

Lastly two food items Starbucks has made available to customers is their new Vanilla Bean Custard Danish. This is a Warmed up bakery pastry with smooth and thick vanilla bean custard in the center of the pastry. The outside crust is crispy and thin making it easy to bite into and enjoy. Their second new food addition is the Spicy Falafel Pocket. This falafel pocket has hummus, roasted bell peppers, pickled onions, and spicy herbs all wrapped up in a lavash flatbread. This is a good option for breakfast or even lunch because of the easy access to good protein and vegetables.
At Saugus High School Starbucks is very common to see students and even teachers starting off their day with beverages or food from Starbucks. So the Saugus Scroll interviewed freshmen Lillian Cabrera to ask which new addition to the Starbucks featured menu she liked best and why. “I really liked their new Vanilla Bean Custard Danish because of the sweetness from the custard and how good it tastes warmed up. I’m really glad they added it. I look forward to any vanilla flavor that they add hopefully in the future. I have yet to try the drinks they have added to the menu but I’d be excited to try them!! ”
Starbucks’ seasonal menu is always something to look forward to. Whether it’s a spiced pumpkin latte in the fall, a snowman cookie in winter, or a pink drink in the summer there’s always something new to try. These limited drinks make every trip to Starbucks worth it. So, next time you are looking for a place to try coffee or matcha Starbucks has all you need to satisfy your needs.
