Before discussing the arctic winds, how exactly do the winds form? Firstly it isn’t necessarily called “arctic winds” rather it’s called an arctic blast which is basically straight jet streams becoming less stable over time which causes some of the cold winds from the arctic to sneak into the USA and cause much colder weather than usual. The winds will be hitting the USA sometime around 1/18/25 and will have most countries at shockingly cold temperatures. While other places are experiencing the winds, it’s said that the blast won’t really affect California but will decrease the temperature slightly below normal temperatures but also slightly above normal temperatures a little for all of California. The blast is mainly affecting more towards the North of the USA where the coldest of places being 2° to -13°, the warmer areas on the map are more towards the edges of the USA with the warmest of places being 54° to 74°. Although temperatures are freezing, are they even something that is needed to be a worry at all? In the past, arctic blasts never had usually been a really long occurrence, 2013’s arctic blast only lasted December 6 – 10 and 2022’s arctic blast lasted December 18 – 24, the period in which the arctic blast had lasted for both years are almost identical to each other in time of arctic blasts, this shows how its most likely that this years arctic blast is probably only lasting a little close to a week or even a few days. With both factors of being on the edge of the USA and having only a few days to a week of the arctic blast it’s most likely it won’t be noticeable really even a little bit specifically for California. Not much preparation is needed but only to check if any of your family members / friends are living in the current areas of where the arctic blast is mainly affecting so that you can notify them of the extremely cold conditions that will affect their current area. Though depending on when this article actually releases, the arctic blast may have stopped affecting the USA meaning that it won’t be much of a problem anymore for your current area.
