Moana and Moana 2 are both filled with twists and turns of unexpected events including:
Moana’s death and being brought back her grandma and ancestors spirits
After Maui was stuck the only thing Moana could do was swim to the island and place her hand on it; as she connected with the island Motufetū, Nalu struck her with a lightning bolt which killed her. As the island rose back to light Moana went with it and everyone surrounded her, including all of her ancestors, everyone stood holding hands and the power flooded through them bringing Moana back to life.
Maui losing his powers and no longer being a demi-god
While Maui was trying to save the tribes and pull everyone back together by pulling the underwater island Motufetū back to light he had the chance to escape Nalo (the God that cursed Motufetū). Instead, he chose to continue pulling the island and lost his powers and hook. One of the saddest scenes in my opinion was when the lightning was striking Maui and he lost all his tattoos including Mini Maui.
Moana turning into a demi-goddess
As Moana’s ancestors brought her back to life her grandma held onto her while a golden tattoo appeared on her forearm and her ore had new carvings. Symbolizing her growing as a goddess and accomplishing bring the islands back together. Even after Maui lost his powers and tattoos he was also gifted his powers back after helping Moana save the islands.
Moana reuniting with Simea after her journey
A big fear Moana had when she was leaving her home island was not being able to reunite with her baby sister Simea for a while, or ever again. This scene showed that it’s okay to be scared but to keep pushing and have strength for the things you love. When Moana and Simea reunited they grew so much closer and their relationship blossomed.
