As an avid reader, I’ve read a total of nineteen books so far in 2024. Here are some of my favorites along with ratings, organized from worst to best.
Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas: This book was definitely a great read. I love Penolope Douglas and she’s one of my favorite authors! Birthday Girl is about a poor girl who moves into her boyfriend’s house as she gets her life together. Her boyfriend’s father was also living with them. During her stay, her boyfriend got more and more distant while his father was treating her right. In the end, her and her boyfriend’s father start falling in love. Don’t be confused though! Her boyfriend’s dad was in his mid late 20’s having his son at a very young age. I rate this book 7/10.
Punk 57 by Penelope Douglas: Written by the same author, this book was heart touching and I loved the story behind it. Ryen and Misha were pen pals since they were kids, having never met in real life until their teen years. The story was followed by the lives of high schoolers and showed the connection formed by being pen pals. I absolutely loved this book and it was definitely one of my favorites. I loved the connection they had with each other and will never get over both of them. I’d rate the book 8.5/10
Scarred by Emily Mcintire: SO GOOD. I loved the characters and how they progressed in their character development. This book is re-told about the Lion king and was about a girl Sara who was trying to become the queen and end up killing the entire Fassa Bloodline in revenge for them killing her father. Tristen Fassa, brother of the king, and whose nickname is Scar, starts his revenge of his own brother and to kill him and become the king. As Sara knows she is to kill Tristen, she starts falling for him in a way she cant explain. Their relationship grows stronger, mixing up her feelings with what she wants and doesn’t want anymore. Scarred is definitely one of my top five favorites and will forever wish I could re-read this book for the first time again. This book was 9.5/10.
The Pucking Wrong Number by C.R. Jane: I always love a good hockey romance. C.R. Jane definitely had me on a choke hold with this book. The Pucking Wrong Number is my favorite book I’ve read so far this year. The setting, characters, love story, and everything about this book made it so I couldn’t put it down. I read it all in one day and regret it because I want to go back and reread it for the first time again. I loved how the author showed the dynamic of these characters and how different peoples lives can be and in the end it all doesn’t really matter. 10/10.
Freshman, Sophie Hooper said, “I love reading too and I will definitely read some of these recommended books.” 6I definitely plan to read a couple more books before the year is over and until then I hope to find a book that tops The Pucking Wrong Number.
