Tim Burton’s legendary creation was released into theaters September 6th, 2024, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Since the first film impacted society’s fall spirit back in 1988, I was ecstatic to watch the second one due to my personal love for the set design and creative acting! On September 7th I went to the local Regal Edwards, Valencia movie theater with a few friends to join me in an evening of laughter. This movie is well worth a one hour and forty-four minute time frame of your day – detailed graphics, creative costuming, and powerful acting from legendary actors such as Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Delia Deetz.
Over the past week, theaters are flooded with Beetlejuice fans to see the movie! Let’s get an inside perspective of this film from one of Saugus’ senior’s, Alyssa Rodrigues. Every scene throughout the movie complimented each other, and according to Rodrigues she loved a particular scene the most: “I would say the best scene in the movie was definitely when Beetlejuice found out that his ex-wife had returned because his reaction to it was hilarious and definitely set up the rest of the story.” Specifically, this scene gave the audience a great laugh, but also a sense of thrill, realizing that a villain has been brought into the script. From the film’s loud character, Beetlejuice, to the most dark character, Charles Deetz, the humor appears untouchable! I agree with Alyssa that everyone should watch this true masterpiece that was brought back to life in 2024. Alyssa expresses, “It’s really nostalgic seeing the original actors from years ago appear in the new movie. it gives a sense of childhood back and comfort.” Anyone who has seen the original Beetlejuice from 1988 will experience a fulfilling flashback in 2024.
Compared to the first movie thirty-six years ago, Saugus student – Keira Cooper appreciates how amazing the visuals are, even though this movie was filmed with an entirely different era of technology! As we know, Tim Burton is the brilliant mind behind the Beetlejuice movies. Cooper adds, “I love Tim Burton films because of the unique qualities they always have. I am constantly entertained and the visuals are so unique,” this beloved director has a diverse range of fans– even myself– who are always surprised by his new eerie creations presented onto our televisions.
Specifically in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Tim Burton’s original monsters, such as the Sandworm, creates a prominent difference between a Burton innovation and any other Halloween movie. Expectations from Cooper when going to see this movie were very high, and they were met. Keira confirms, “Yes, the film lived up to my expectations since Tim Burton is one of my favorite directors and I knew it was going to be good. I also love Jenna Ortega so I was very excited that she was in it as well.” As a seventeen year old female, Cooper and I both agree that this movie contains the unique and creative qualities of the first film, and the astounding young actress, Jenna Ortega, is such a special addition!
Every person, no matter their age, should go see this classic halloween masterpiece. From the set design, to the hilarious dialogue, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a nostalgic film to watch with loved ones. Since two of Saugus’ seniors (Cooper and Rodrigues) input their personal opinions about the movie, you now have three positive teen perspectives of the love for this movie. Generations of citizens are coming together to see Beetlejuice Beetlejuice because it connects individuals to their childhoods or adulthoods, making the beauty of the film infinitely wholesome, thanks to Tim Burton!
