Please Please Please
Please Please Please was released on June 6, 2024, as her second single from Short n’ Sweet. It reached the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her first number-one single on the chart. The track showcases the idea of having a partner who makes questionable decisions and the need to protect her pride and her image.
Good Graces
Good Graces is 3rd on the Short n’ Sweet album list. Starting strong, the song currently has 212.6K views. The song shows that it is okay to set boundaries in a relationship and walk away from situations that don’t fit you. With the song’s message and upbeat melody, the music is perfect for a confidence boost.
Sharpest Tool
Sharpest Tool shows Carpenter’s emotional side. The song is a heartfelt and raw ballad of a one-sided love. The title, on its own, references the idiom “not the sharpest tool in the shed,” emphasizing the idea that the other person is clueless. The track debuted at #25 on this week’s Global Spotify chart with 21.22 million streams.
Coincidence
Coincidence explains the sequence of events in a relationship leading up to discovering the “other woman” in a relationship. She describes this sequence as a “coincidence” to sarcastically shove her partner’s excuses into the picture. The track has 14.8M streams as of now.
Bed Chem
Bed Chem showcases Carpenter’s growth as an artist. The song is a confident and alluring song that shows the thrill of attraction. With the song’s rhythm upbeat yet confident music, and vocals, Bed Chem is the music to listen to at any time during any mood.
Espresso
Espresso was part of Carpenter’s rise to fame, being one of her most popular songs to this day. The song is mostly about not taking life seriously and having fun.
Dumb & Poetic
Dumb and Poetic is a moving and reflective song that breaks down the outer shell of an ideal companion. Throughout the lyrics, Carpenter addresses the disappointment that results from realizing there is a difference between a person’s statements and their deeds in her straightforward songs.
Slim Pickins
The 9th song on the Short n’ Sweet album is a bittersweet song that focuses on the difficulties of falling in love in the modern dating scene. Carpenter’s moving voice and the song’s straightforward arrangement convey a sense of sorrow and desire.
Juno
For everyone who has felt the excitement of a new love and the want for a closer bond, Juno is the perfect song that they can relate to. The song’s lyrics recognize the value of commitment and respect for one another while also capturing the thrill and uncertainty of discovering the possibilities in a partnership.
Lie To Girls
The 11th song on the album is a brutal and honest critique of dishonesty and the extent people will go to to keep up a front. The song is a compelling look at lying to oneself and the destructive cycle of dishonesty in relationships.
Don’t Smile
Arguably one of the saddest songs on the album, Don’t Smile explains practically begging an ex to show they are just as hurt as she is. Although she claims it wasn’t about her personal experience, it doesn’t make the song any less touching. The track is at 5.8M streams as of now.
Not just the stats show appreciation to this album, but many people individually like it as well. Olivia Steele, a freshman here at Saugus, gave us her opinion on the album. “I really like Sabrina’s new album because her songs are really addictive… The bridges are clever and the way her voice is throughout the whole album is amazing. I think she’s a really good songwriter and singer and her album really shows that.”
