
Abigail Delacruz is a senior at Saugus High School who is on the varsity cheerleading team as a side base for the Centurions. She has been on the team since her sophomore year and has shown leadership and confidence. It’s not just her physical strength that sets her apart but her also being mentally tough. Her positive attitude and ability to stay focused under pressure has made her a respected person on the team. Abigail’s journey being a student athlete inspires others. Such as giving advice to younger students thinking about trying out for cheer. She said, “I’d say keep practicing, always believe in yourself no matter what, and just have fun”. It can be very nerve racking for any athlete before a game. So, what does Abigail do before to prepare mentally? She stated, “Usually before games or competitions I like to listen to music to calm me down”. She has multiple favorite parts about being on the team. Abigail expressed, “My favorite part about being on the team is the football games and memories, especially getting ready before the games with my teammates, and then going to random places to eat after”.
Not only does Abigail enjoy doing cheerleading, she also shared what she likes to do outside of school. She shared, “Outside of school I like going out with my friends and hanging out with my family and my pets”. She has her mind set up for after high school as well. She said, “After high school I want to go to college and get my nursing degree to become a registered nurse”. It is yet unknown what college she will be attending. However, she has put lots of time and effort into writing college essay applications.

Abigail is a great example of what it means to be well rounded and dedicated. She is a role model for others proving that with discipline and hard work anyone can achieve their goals. Whether she’s leading chants on Friday night games or studying for her next exam, she continues to shine with her school spirit and determination. She is a great example of what it means to be a Centurion.
