You’ve probably seen them at games, standing front and center in the student section, participating in every theme, doing the push-up board, and getting everyone around them hyped up. That’s the Blue Crew. Whether it’s football, basketball, or any other big game, they’re the ones in charge, making sure the student section actually shows up with energy. They’re loud, energetic, and basically the heart of our school spirit. But while it might look like it’s all fun and games from the outside, there’s actually a lot more that goes into being part of the Blue Crew than people might realize.
The 2025-2026 Saugus Blue Crew leaders are Immy Ranit, Daisy Lemus, Evamarine Rios, and Mikhail Tezai. These four bring positive energy to every game, while enforcing student section rules. Rules in the student section such as no powder, cowbells, and airhorns are supported by Blue Crew so every student can have a safe, enjoyable experience. Blue Crew also upholds the student order: Seniors in the front, Juniors and Sophomores in the middle, and Freshman in the back. Not only do they encourage school spirit, they also encourage all students to stay safe and follow rules.
An essential part of Blue Crew is participating in themes each game. Participating in themes shows school spirit by bringing students together and creating a sense of unity and pride. It’s a fun way to support the team and be part of something bigger than just the game. Each game has a theme to bring excitement to the stands. This year, our themes have been Neon, Blue Out, Jersey, and Camo/Jungle. Blue Crew Leader Daisy Lemus claimed her favorite part of her job is ‘dressing up because it’s hilarious to me and pushes me a little out of my comfort zone. It makes it fun for us and the crowd and gives people a good laugh, even when we are losing.” A high school football game would be nothing without the spirit that our Blue Crew brings to the stands.
If you are interested in joining Blue Crew, there is a google form posted at the beginning of football season that allows you to apply. You must be going into your senior year to join. Daisy says she recommends joining for “those who are loud, outgoing, and have the energy to participate because it can be exhausting hyping everybody up.” Participating in Blue Crew is a great way to be more involved in Saugus High School, make connections with students, and take pride in your school. It is such a good way for students to express themselves and show leadership during football games.
