When the word “track” is brought up many people think of endless running and suffering. In truth, there is a lot of running, but that cannot overshadow the healthy lifestyle, community, and overall school life. The track program at Saugus is a very large sport, especially at Saugus High School. Many people during the off-season are training so that they are able to make the cut when tryouts arrive. The extensive conditioning and weight training that the program helps kids stay fit, build a happy community and improve their stay at Saugus.
Max Trejo, a thrower for Saugus’ Track Program, loves his team. He says that everyone on the team is very kind and helpful. He also likes talking to the other kids on the team. He also says the program has helped him lose weight, but also gain some muscle. He also says there is little interaction between the runners and the throwers during practice but it’s okay because everyone is “chill”. Even in his junior year at Saugus he shows no signs of wanting to stop throwing. Even when the practice is challenging, the payoff is well worth it. A little bit of sweat seems worth staying healthy, happy, and joining a beautiful community of nice like-minded people.
A runner for the program, Brennan Hanchett, also says that the program is very beneficial. He especially likes the fact that it helps him stay fit and healthy. He states that the community of runners is a good one. Although he needs to run all the time for practice he is able to look forward to the recovery days and weight room after a hard day of training. Brennan plans to continue the rest of his time in high school in the program due to all these factors.
In all, Saugus’ track program is a good way to stay healthy and fit, while also building and joining a fun and enthusiastic community that is willing to build you up. Whether you join the enduring runners or the strong throwers, you are bound to find people that you will love and look forward to being with.
