As the new school year begins, there are many things to think about when in high school and becoming lower or upperclassmen. It can be very stressful when going into the next grade, so hopefully this will help you be ready for the new school year!
Becoming a freshman can be very nerve racking, going to a new school, not knowing what to expect, the pressure to keep good grades in class and graduate and become ready for college. Well the pressure is on when becoming a freshman, and it’s not as bad as you think, even if people call you the lowest member of the food chain. When becoming a freshman, you want to make sure where you are going around the campus, and when you sort of know your way around, you want to make sure where your classes are and other important places are Make sure you know where the nearest bathrooms are or even the main school areas such as the Library, Gym, or even Cafeteria. Make friends and talk to people in your grade or even classes. It’s a lot better and even fun when you talk to people that have the same classes you take. Always remember to put yourself out there, and even if you don’t want to, think about ways to make yourself noticeable. Join clubs and sports for your school if you can or want too, and show school spirit!
As you get into your last year of lowerclassmen, you hopefully feel less anxious cause you already went through the first year of high school and know what to expect. As you go into sophomore year, the work will get harder, so make sure you have a good way of paying attention. Make some new ways of studying and maybe do things you didn’t do last year. It could be studying groups, asking for help, or even getting a tutor. Get involved more in school, it could be involved in extracurricular activities, leadership roles, or anything you would pick that seems fun and that you’re passionate about.
Junior year is the year to be upperclassmen and start prepping for college, also a great way for academic focus and future planning. Keep trying to maintain good grades and taking challenging classes is vital, as this year is significantly impacting your college admissions decisions. Think of what college or any future career path you want to take or even a job. Having a job in high school might be hard even if you do sports, but making money on the side will help in the future. Junior year is also a great way to dive deeper into more extracurricular activities, and explore interest.
As you get into your last year in high school, you want to make sure you did everything you needed to learn for your future. Keep maintaining good grades and focus on graduating. Do things you didn’t do at all this year to make your last year count. You all have a future ahead of you and it’s time to make it good. Choose a career path that you are passionate about, and make sure you go to a good college that helps with the study you want to do.
