Homecoming is around the corner. As we go into another year here at Saugus High, there are many things the school has to offer. From joining sports, to being a part of a club, and going to the rallies. When homecoming is around the corner, everyone gets excited. Students sometimes make big posters to ask someone to homecoming with a bouquet of flowers, and it is so wholesome to watch when someone says yes. The rallies are always a fun thing to go to for some excitement. The performances, school spirit, and everything about them are what makes Saugus Saugus. Different students have their own opinions about the rallies, whether they like them or not.
During the week of homecoming, ASB hosts a spirit week for the school. Junior Lily Munguia explains how ASB comes up with their ideas for spirit week, “For spirit days, we have a special commission that kind of makes ideas from the themes, Based on the themes, we try to incorporate high risk, which is things that we’re not sure if students will participate, and low risk, which is stuff that is not hard for students to do, and we try to incorporate that with the themes. Our last decade rally, we incorporated on Wednesday is 80s day, so dress in 80s and stuff like that. Like I said, the commission comes up with all that. It’s actually a group of like 12 students, maybe less, that come up with these. The spirit days I enjoy the most are the ones that don’t require a bunch of effort, such as showing up and maybe doing a thing on the stage and hardly compared to last year. I’d say we’re gonna try and corporate the theme more into the spirit base.” Getting everything ready is not an easy thing to prepare, and it is very time consuming, but in the end, it’s worth it to see everyone in school having a great time.
Before the day of the carnival, there’s the homecoming football game at COC. Some students may come to support the football team, hang out with their friends, or see the performances by programs at Saugus. Varsity captain Senior Kellen Jones talks about the football game, “I’m pretty excited for the game. It’s my last homecoming game so I obviously want to win just like last year. It does make me a little nervous since it’s homecoming and it has that added pressure though. There isn’t really anything I have changed since then. This season I’m really looking forward to playing with this team. In specific, the chemistry is all there and makes me feel much more motivated and excited.” Playing an important game definitely adds pressure, and someone with that much responsibility can make them super nervous. Though, going to practice, and making sure you know what you’re doing is all worth it. Anything that’s important can be nerve wrecking, while also exciting at the same time. For seniors, it can be bittersweet that it will be their last one, but they will have the memories that will last a lifetime.
To sum it all up, homecoming is an exciting time for everyone. From the rally, football game, and the carnival rides, this festive time is always such an amazing experience for all the students here at Saugus.
