On August 22nd, 2025 the Saugus Centurions kicked off their home opening game with a win. They spent a lot of time training for this season and it showed throughout the course of their first few games. The viewers were ecstatic when the players came out on the field. Though we started off fairly rocky, our spirit shined through and we took the win. It was a long game, but the Centurions persevered and didn’t lose the spirit, energy, or excitement that they gained from the crowd.
Saugus came out of the gate a little shaky, trying to find their footing. Saugus seemed to be stronger on offense, rather than defense, running sophisticated and effective blocking plays. Some strong leaders in this game were Ty Hall, Landon Lattimore, Teddy Knott, and Elvis Encinas. Ty is ranked in the top 82 in California for 1 stat, top 39 in Southern Section for 1 stat, and top 1 in Foothill for 2 stats. Against Buena, Ty scored 4 touchdowns along with 22 carries. After the game, we interviewed senior Teddy Knott. He was asked how the team’s chemistry has been so far this season and he answered saying, “The chemistry between all of us has been the best it has ever been in years, it’s like a family on this team and we can all play in unity.” Teddy explains that the team’s chemistry is at an all time high and they are one big family. We also asked how he mentally and physically prepared before this big game, “Well, mentally I envisioned myself doing my job out on the field and taking care of myself. Physically, I slept and stayed off of my feet and made sure to stay hydrated.” Knott replied. For athletes it is very exhausting having practice and games everyday so we need to make sure before games to be fueling our bodies and resting before big games like those.
The stats from this football season so far have been insane. The top performer ranked by Maxpreps.com is Landon Lattimore with his total points scored so far being 30. Aside from the outstanding plays happening on the field, the student section was very enthusiastic. The support from all of the students was out of this world. Led by the “blew crew”, the Student Section was very into the game. They were cheering, starting chants, doing a kiss cam. What makes a student section good is participation which we definitely had. The theme for the game was construction/neon and everyone participated. People were wearing construction jackets and hats, neon face paint, neon shirts, neon everything!
