Classic Tackle Football is a staple of most American High Schools. Saugus’ Football team attracts hundreds of fans into the stands each year. However; this year Saugus decided to adopt a new program, Girls Flag Football. The new Varsity team, led by Coach Russell, has had an amazing start to league, beating Golden Valley 20-6. All of the girls on Varsity are new to the sport of flag football, but their efforts on the field do not go unnoticed.

In a recent interview with running back Savannah Malone, she was asked if she has any concerns regarding how Saugus is a new program and they’ll be going against older, more experienced teams, and she confidently answered: “I have no doubts when I hear a team has been playing longer, I have no concerns about how Saugus’ flag football team is new, playing against older teams.” She not only gave a confident answer, but she also shifted the conversation to explain why she and her team were out in the field to begin with: ”No matter what, me and my team always do out best, and have fun.” It’s clear the girls are here to win, and even when they fall short they still make lasting memories and enjoy the experience. The girls’ on this team are extremely motivated and positive they will succeed this season.
Saugus’ girls flag football team is ready to make history with their first season. No matter what challenges come their way it’s clear they will preserve and make the best of the upcoming year.
