The upcoming 2025-2026 Girls Volleyball season has just started. Having only had a couple of games so far, the Junior Varsity players have been playing better than ever. Being so early on in the season, the constant wins are making chances more likely to make it to win the league. So far, the game days have been constant, happening on the 12th, 14th, 19th, 21st, 23rd, 26th, and 28th of August.
First, let’s meet the team. Our group of girls includes the following:
Starting with #14, Lily Oliver. Lily is a 5’10 middle blocker who’s always up. Next, we have #16, Alyssa Orlando. Alyssa scores points over points at the service line and always delivers a perfectly placed set. The one and only libero and Co-Captain, Jayda Weeks, #17, takes over half the court in serve receive and delivers a perfect pass every time. A main utility player and outside hitter, Olivia Brown, can swing from anywhere on the court, taking big swings, even when scores are tight. Another pin hitter, Yamurai Usaiyuwevu, receives a perfect set and always knows how to tool a big block. Captain Araceli Mata, #31, is a 6 rotation outside hitter and never misses a serve. A new player to volleyball, and multi-sport athlete #33 Sophia Johnson, always provides a good laugh and supports her teammates to the fullest. Second middle blocker, Katie Granger, #41, is coming back from an ankle injury better than ever, making big plays and bigger blocks. Front row setter, Sophie Hooper, #87, makes amazing decisions on the court, and intimidates pin hitter with her big block. Last, #99 and defensive specialist, Cami Raza, a brave player who’s never afraid to go after a ball.
Having a rough start to the season, the Santa Barbara match was a challenge, winning the second set and taking SB to three, and sadly losing 14-16. This group of girls fought, and it was an amazing match to watch, having varsity and frosh cheer them on when scores got close. The unity represented through this program is amazing. When asked ‘How are you feeling in preseason so far?’, Cami Raza, a backrow player with 2 years of experience under her belt says, “I’m really proud of my team so far, I think we’re making big progress since the start of practices and we all have a lot of faith in this team to hopefully go undefeated in league .”
The next teams to face in preseason were Highlands, Ventura, and Village Christian. On the 23rd of August, the girls rose to the occasion for the Del Sol Tournament. They faced challenging teams, but went 3-0 in the pool play, then went undefeated in playoffs, but lost in the Championship (score 21-25).
League starts soon on the 28th for the team. Soon these girls will face district teams, including West Ranch, Canyon, Castaic, Valencia, Golden Valley, and Hart. This season will be challenging, with only ten players on the roster, but this group will fight.
