On January 7th, fierce winds caused fires to break out in multiple areas. The fire spread quickly, damaging everything it touched. Houses, apartments, and buildings were destroyed; not to mention the hundreds of lives that were changed forever. However, throughout this chaos, one constant was the brave first responders who rushed into the chaotic scene ready to risk their lives to protect citizens and their communities. Local businesses and community members were kind enough to provide them with free meals to give them recognition during this tireless tragedy.
Many places were generous enough to share and give out free meals/food to the first responders. From giving small water bottles, snacks, or full plates of meals anything and everything helped these brave people get through the night. Bobby Crees, a Police Sergeant from the Pasadena Police Department said, “That night was chaotic and traumatic for many but the people around us and local food businesses who offered us food and drinks helped tremendously” (Crees).
One of the businesses in the area was; IHOP: International House Of Pancakes – they provided comfort by supplying small meals with condiments, utensils, and napkins on the side.
Another common food that was available to these first responders was pizza, not all from a specific place or shop but given from all around the area. Some were given for free and others bought some and brought it to the site to share with the workers.
Some shops even sent out food trucks to give a resource of a way to get food, one that was more common was The Habit – Burger Grill and one of the lesser known but still generous restaurants was King Taco.
Another fire broke out in Castaic causing even more damage to areas all over. Luckily, there was not as much damage in the area due to the Hughes Fire. Real Life Church Valencia gave away food, water, and hygiene necessities to anyone who was affected by the Hughes Fire.
These fires were devastating and a tragedy that has changed peoples lives forever. However throughout these terrible times the people and restaurants who contributed their resources and time have helped so much. The community and people who lose their homes are forever grateful.
