The wind is howling while colored leaves are roaming the floors of the streets. Every neighborhood household is decorated with stringy cobwebs and styrofoam tombstones with zombie hands sticking out of the grass. When you get home from school and take off your converse, changing into ugg slippers, you realize it’s finally that time of year.
One a month a year, people express their love for Halloween by carving pumpkins and watching scary movies. The most well-known activity during this season is dressing up for Halloween night. Most people like to plan Halloween costumes in advance. Some may even start planning the day after halloween the previous year. However, a lot of people tend to wait until the last minute and struggle to actually find an outfit. If you’re in need of some inspiration for Halloween costumes before it’s too late you can either order one on amazon or stop by at your local halloween store.
Some Halloween stores are open all year round but there is one type of Halloween store that opens just as the fall season begins and it definitely has the most options. This well-known store is called Spirit Halloween. For many years there has been one Spirit Halloween store located at 26575 Carl Boyer Dr, Santa Clarita, CA 91350. This original Spirit Halloween store was filled with fun interactive animatronics, lots of halloween decorations, accessories, and a wide variety of costumes. Recently, the original building where Spirit Halloween was locate was bought. This caused them to move next door to a smaller building.
Recently I took my friends and we decided to explore the newest location. As we arrived I first noticed the location difference. You could really see the size difference of the old building compared to the new building. The new building is about a quarter of the original size. Getting closer to the building you can see that the sign was still the same yellow “Spirit Halloween” with an orange background. Walking into the new building I immediately saw a difference.
The first thing I noticed was the few staff members and cash registers. Although there were only a few, they were all very welcoming and respectful. The next thing I noticed was that there was not any animatronics. The original location of Spirit Halloween was very well known for their exciting and scary animatronics. Their animatronics varied from easy clowns to jump scares from realistic horror movie characters. When I saw that there weren’t any animatronics it was a little disappointing as that was what I was looking forward to but I continued to explore. The next thing I noticed was all the costumes and accessories.
Spirit Halloween is always the perfect place to use your creativity to put together your costume. This new location of Spirit Halloween was surprisingly very organized and stocked with any costume you could imagine. The costumes varied from animal onesies to your favorite movie/tv show characters. This location was even stocked with the new BeetleJuice movie costumes. This store was also filled with accessories that can easily put together any costume. There’s a whole aisle of SFX makeup to make your perfect horror look and jewelry to add more character to your costume. There were also props to complete any costume. The next thing I noticed about the store was that there were so many rubber masks. If you are in need of a quick costume the mask aisle will be the best option.
As I was making my laps around the store I came across the decoration aisle. As I looked around, I couldn’t find many outside decorations. However, I was able to come across some home decorations like blankets, lights, and small table decorations. There were also some decorations that could make sound but they weren’t working.
As I finally finished inspecting the new location of spirit halloween I asked my friend her thoughts. Makeli Leonard a sophomore athlete at Saugus High School mentioned, “No animatronics were there and that’s what I really liked about the old location but I do agree that it was very well stocked and organized”. Overall, I’ve come to the conclusion that even if this new Spirit Halloween got moved to a smaller building; staff are welcoming, costumes are stocked, the store is organized, and that there’s everything you need.
