Ashe’s Shocking Return
Ashe, also known as Ashlyn Rae Wilson released her successful album titled “Rae” in 2022 and began to take the world by storm with her lyrics, her voice, and her performances at multiple festivals and live concerts. She eventually announced a tour for Europe, the UK, and North America that almost immediately sold out. Everybody was ecstatic about the upcoming large tour, but after a few shows, she announced that she was canceling all upcoming shows and festivals. February 1st, 2023, Ashe posted to her Instagram and said: “After nearly three years without stopping, I no longer feel mentally healthy or resilient enough to go back on tour yet. In forcing myself to take a break this last month, I have unintentionally uncovered a host of struggles and wounds I’ve not given myself time to address in the past.” Ashe mentioned this via an Instagram post, and since then, she had no public appearances and became completely inactive on all social media platforms until June 2024. She had a surprise appearance alongside Niall Horan at his concert, in which they performed a song they share, titled Moral Of The Story.
Ashe just recently released her three-song EP titled “I Wanna Love You (But I Don’t) / I Hope You Die First” and is excited to share her return with the world. The EP features three songs:
I Wanna Love You (But I Don’t)
“I wanna love you, but I don’t
I think that something went wrong
Now I don’t know where I belong anymore
And I should leave you, but I won’t
I’ve forgotten how to get back
But I remember what we had
The party’s over, and I know I should go
I wanna love you, but I don’t”
The first track will also be the first track on Ashe’s upcoming album called “Wilson”, which releases on September 6th. The emotional piece expresses many things, it depends on how the listener interprets it, it can be about knowing when it is time to bring things to an end, but not wanting to say goodbye to the good memories, or it can be about the internal struggle someone may have when it comes to loving themselves. Ashe once said in a recent interview “’I Wanna Love You (But I Don’t)’ is really about myself and the place I was in then. I’m so glad that song is out and I’m so glad I wrote it but it’s also just really painful. And I don’t want to go back to that place. So, I’m hoping that it helps people feel a little-seen if you’ve ever felt similarly”.

I hope you die first
I don’t wanna die before you
Promise I’ll be right behind
But I should be there to hold your hand
It’s already been decided
I’ll be here to say, “Goodbye”
Honey, I want you to understand
For better or for worse
I hope you die first
In the second track of her EP, Ashe recently mentioned the inspiration and her message behind ‘I Hope You Die First’, “I was in the midst of all this craziness, I was also falling in love, which I’m so grateful for John [Canada] who is in my life. I always had this sad thing of, ‘If nature goes accordingly, I can’t believe that I’m gonna have to die without my Mom holding my hand’. And, I just thought of how, ‘Gosh, I want to be there for the person I love so much. And, so, when you go, I’ll be there, I’ll hold your hand and I’ve got you. And then, I’ll follow right behind”. The song is about being so in love that you don’t want your loved ones to have to go through any pain because of you.

Running Out Of Time
I’ve got to go see ’bout a guy in Tennessee
And I don’t care if I make it out alive (ooh-ooh, ooh)
And I’m not sure if I’m in love, but it feels like freedom
And my 20s (20s) are running (running), and running (running)
I’m running out of time (oh, oh, oh)
I’m runnin’ out of time (oh, oh, oh)
In Running Out Of Time, this upbeat song gives the feeling of freedom, change, and taking the chance of following your dreams while you still can. This song also mentions what she has been up to during her long break from her music career, “I’ve got to go see about a guy in Tennessee And I don’t care if I make it out alive” in Ashe’s return, she also announced that she is now engaged! Ashe explains the song and says “While ‘Running Out Of Time’ moonlights as a love song, it’s about self-exploration and independence. For me, that looked like getting out of Los Angeles, getting more comfortable with things like my mortality, and worrying less about the opinions of others. It feels like such the right sentiment after a long time away”.

Saugus Students have also enjoyed the release of Ashe’s new EP, and are looking forward to her newest album ‘Wilson’! One of which is Gianna Cannistraci, a Junior at Saugus High School, when asked about her favorite song off of “I Wanna Love You (But I don’t) / I hope you die first”, she says her favorite song is ‘Running Out of Time’. Gianna gives her input on why she feels Running Out of Time is her favorite song, she says: “I like the opening of the song as it catches the listeners attention quickly, instead of slowly building up like her others which are more on a softer note, whereas this one is more free and motivational and seems like it would be a really good background in a movie. The song also starts in a more indie kind of way and ends up being pop which I find interesting about the song.”
Available now, ‘Wilson’ is now up on all platforms and free to listen to everywhere! You can now enjoy the new nine songs by Ashe. Ashe came out with her EP to promote her upcoming album and the songs that would be on it, while also giving her fans a sneak peek of what’s to come!
