The 2024 Saugus varsity Baseball team was fortunate enough to come home with a great amount of major victories throughout their season. With hard work and a great amount of dedication the boys were able to reclaim titles/wins that haven’t been taken for quite some time, and make great memories along the way. Just a few highlights from the season consisted of many different wins for the boys.
In addition to the great memories made, the hard work paid off as the boys brought home winning round two of the Valencia game for the first time in about 3 years, Giovanni Garfalo, a senior on the varsity baseball team mentioned,”My favorite memory this season was when I pitched 9 ⅔ innings in our first win in 3 years against Valencia”. It didn’t stop there as the team was able to walk away with a clean sweep against Hart high school for the first time in 19 years, as well as sweeping Canyon, Golden valley, and Castaic which were just a few of the many mentionable games and accomplishments from this season. Senior varsity baseball player Wesley Yim claimed that, “Throughout the year my favorite part of the season was probably just all the league games we played, and how much fun and hyped up it was for us, and all the memories we made”. The baseball team ended the season with overall 30-20 wins, consisting of 9-3 league game wins. The team was able to make it to play offs, but some of their starters were not able to play at the game which resulted in a hard fight but not a win ending the game with a score of 6-2 for the season.
The team’s family-like friendship and dynamic seems to be what really got the boys through the season, as well as the large number of seniors on the team. Dom Zambrano, a Senior on the varsity baseball team stated that, “The one thing he wished he could have done differently was Stopping people from getting in trouble”. After interviewing many players on the team overall it seemed they had a great year not only playing, but also working as a team hyping each other up, and just having fun as teammates and friends. They seemed to have a great bond on and off the field which is the perfect mixt for success.
