Throughout the 2023-2024 Saugus Cheerleading season there were many highlights for the team as a whole. From competing in Florida to winning USA Nationals in California the team was able to accomplish many goals and make a great name for themselves in the cheer community. Ending the season the Varsity Competition team was undefeated in California winning both CIF southern section and CIF regionals. This season was especially special because it was the most difficult routine ever competed at our high school. The routines performed don’t come easy, with long practices, hard work, and determination the team can create an amazing effortless looking routine.
The team was very fortunate this year given the opportunity to work with many different athletes and coaches from all over the country. From working with the amazing Live Oak coaches to Corner Canyon, Mater dei, and Downey high school, as well as going to CBU to work with the athletes and coaches, and Proven cheer coaches, and girls from West Georgia (One of the best college cheer teams in the country), palm springs to work with a variety of different coaches and athletes from colleges all over the country, and many more V rock spirit choreographers.
The team was fortunate enough to compete in World’s for the first time in Saugus high school history where they placed 3rd against many different teams from all over the world including many teams from Canada, Jamaica, and three other teams from America making a name for Saugus worldwide. Senior Saugus varsity cheerleader Elizabeth Damirjian stated, “I honestly think this year’s team was so talented and it showed on the mat. We were very hungry this year and wanted to prove that we were worthy and I think we did just that. At nationals all the hard work was visible after multiple hit routines”. Not only were the accomplishments of this team made extremely memorable but the bond and relationships created along the way will forever be memorable. The love this team has for each other is amazing, and won’t be forgotten. As well as the dedication, not only do they have competitions all weekend but they cheer for football and basketball games, on top of having practices for varsity gameday, and Traditional Comp teams, as well as sideline practices. Although it may take up a lot of time, it is definitely well worth the practice when on the mat competing.
