Santa Clarita coffee lovers are in luck! The beloved Philz Coffee has opened its new location in Valencia. It’s located in the shopping center across from the mall where Starbucks used to be. The address is 24286 Valencia Blvd, Valencia, CA 91355 in the Valencia Crossroads center.
Philz Coffee was founded by Phil Jaber and his son Jacob Jaber. They opened their first location on January 1, 2003, in San Francisco. Before, Phil owned a convenience store for 25 years, which caused him to gain a love for experimenting with and creating cups of coffee. The first Philz location opened in San Francisco. The shop was successful and in 2013 the business received funding to create more locations. Now, they have 72 thriving locations all around California and Illinois. Their coffee is completely different from any other shop due to their coffee being drip style, which is made one cup at a time. They have several different flavors of coffee beans to choose from and options of customization for sweetener and cream. They have different milk options at no extra charge including cream, milk, vanilla soy, oat, and almond. Sugar options include white, honey, Splenda, Equal, Sweet’n Low, and Stevia. Both can be asked for at different levels including light, medium, regular, and extra. The business has been a complete success and is beloved by fans. They even have an online shop where you can buy their signature coffee beans, merch, and cups.
Immediately upon walking in, the employees were extremely kind and helpful. The place was busy but not extremely crowded or hectic. Their menu makes it easy to order, showing the steps of creating the perfect drink. Customers choose hot or iced, size, amount of cream, amount of sweetness, and if they would like a cream/sweetener alternative. Then, you choose your coffee bean blend. They have different categories including Dark & Bold, Medium & Balanced, and Light & Bright. I ordered a few very different drinks to see what was best. I already loved that the drinks are pretty affordable compared to other shops and that alternatives aren’t extra. The aesthetic of the entire place including the cups is the cutest. When receiving your drink, they ask you to try it and ask if you want to make any adjustments to make it your perfect cup. I love the care that is put into everything.
Dancing Water:
This blend is a part of their Light & Bright category and features notes of brown sugar, biscuit, and citrus. I ordered it small, hot, and “House Way”, being sweet and creamy. I enjoyed this one. It was perfectly sweet, flavorful, and smooth. I feel like it is your perfect classic cup of coffee. I would give it a 7/10. It’s nothing out of this world, but it’s a great cup of coffee.
Iced Coffee Rosé:
I ordered this small, iced, and “House Way”, which is sweet and creamy. This is one of their Featured Creations and it’s topped with a rose cream. Going into this it’s the cutest and I expected it to be a sweeter drink. I was very disappointed. It tasted bitter, strong, and artificial with hints of cough medicine. I definitely would not recommend this drink. I’d give it a 1/10.
Winter Bliss:
I again ordered this one small, iced, and “House Way”, which is sweet and creamy. This is a newer seasonal holiday drink This drink uses the Gratitude bean blend which includes flavors of toasted walnut, caramel, and dried citrus. It has Ghiradelli Cocoa as well as cinnamon and nutmeg. This drink is a lot sweeter than the other ones but not too sweet. It has a lot of rich chocolate flavor. This drink is really comforting. I’d give it an 8/10.
Fresh Chai:
I ordered this small, iced, and “House Way”, which is sweet and creamy. This drink is a little bit different from the others as it is one of their non coffee options which is a tea. I love iced chais and I loved this one though I feel it’s extremely different from chais you would get from most places. This drink has an intense, fresh, and authentic taste, while most chai tastes really sweet and artificial. This drink was subtly sweet and very creamy. It tastes very pure and bright. It was definitely my favorite drink I tried and I’d give it a 9/10.
Overall, I’d give Philz Coffee a 7.5/10. It’s extremely unique and truly has good quality drinks. The customer service is amazing. I would recommend this place to anyone who is a true coffee lover. It really only focuses on coffee so those who go to coffee shops for different drinks
wouldn’t have many options. Its competitors like Starbucks, Dunkin, Coffee Bean, etc. are more kid-friendly and have more options. It really depends on what your personal taste is. Saugus Cheerleader Grace Boon gets the Philtered Soul “House way” with foam. “I really like Philz when I’m in the mood for just coffee and this drink is for sure my favorite,” she explains. Saugus Senior Tatum Hyatt explains she loves both the Mocha Terosa and Regular Terosa. “The Mocha is very creamy and rich in chocolate, I love to get it with the most cream and sugar,” she says. Tatum thinks “all the coffees are much better than Starbucks or Dunkin since they are pour-overs.” You can most definitely guarantee you getting a delicious and quality cup of coffee, give it a try!
