Gypsy Rose Blanchard born and raised in Southern Louisiana is a young woman who unfortunately was a victim of Munchausen by proxy which created a horror of a childhood for her. Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy is a behavioral disorder that primarily affects the caretaker. The person diagnosed with MSP gains sympathy and attention for made-up medical issues and diseases. Her mother Clauddine Blanchard not only restricted Gypsy from living a normal childhood life growing up, but she also made it difficult for Gypsy to see her father and do normal things. Her mother created a dangerous cycle of lies considering Gypsy’s health as early as three years old, going as far as convincing doctors she couldn’t walk putting her in a wheelchair, removing Gypsy’s salivary glands in her neck, as well as forcing her to use a feeding tube. Through manipulation, her mother was able to somehow convince a majority of people that Gypsy was genuinely ill. Putting her through the most awful things as a young growing child leaving Gypsy with a large amount of trauma to deal with.
Later on in life, Gypsy began talking to Nicholas Godejohn online who would eventually become her boyfriend. By this time Gypsy had known that what her mother had been doing was not right and began to communicate with her boyfriend about the things her mother had been doing. In response, they came up with a plan to get Gypsy out of the situation she had been born into, the only issue was it involved committing a murder. They believed the only way Gypsy was able to get out of her situation was if her mother was murdered. Gypsy unfortunately was not educated enough to know about her mother’s condition and did not realize she could have approached her situation in a much better way ending with a much better outcome. On June 9, 2015, in Springfield Missouri Nicholas Godejohn arrived at Gypsy’s home while they were away at a doctor’s appointment, once returning home Dee Dee (Gypsy’s mother) had fallen asleep, Gypsy knowing this information allowed Nicholas into her home and provided him with gloves, a knife, and duct tape knowing that he would attempt to murder her mother. After stabbing her mother 17 times, Gypsy and Nicholas fled to a motel out of town where they would be found 5 days later, and arrested.
As a result, Gypsy was sentenced to 10 years in jail and charged with second-degree murder as well as her boyfriend who had been sentenced to life in prison for committing the crime. It became quite obvious Gypsy had realized what she had done and felt extremely regretful. After
spending her time in jail and reflecting on the mistakes she made Gypsy-Rose was let out on December 8, 2023, at approximately 3:30 am, three years before her original date. Later on in her life in an interview, Gypsy confesses, “Nobody will ever hear me say I’m glad she’s dead or I’m proud of what I did”. She’s grown while developing a large following on social media Gypsy is able to now share her story for others to hear about, and bring awareness to her mother’s illness. She’s felt a massive amount of support which has allowed her to be free and create a new life for herself.
