Matthew Perry, born on August 19, 1969, making him 54 years old. His parents separated when he was just one years old. Perry was mostly raised by his mother mostly in Ottawa, Ontario, but also lived for a short amount of time in Toronto and Montreal. He started his first acting job in 1988 while still in highschool, Perry now is best known for his role in the T.V show Friends playing Chandler Bing. Matthew Perry just recently passed away at the age of 54 on October 28, 2023 due to a drowning in his hot tub.
Matthew Perry landed his very first role while still in high school a supporting role opposite star River Phoenix in A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon in 1988. It was a film with not much notice; he didn’t make much out of it. His acting career started off once he moved to los angles and auditioned for roles. He made many guest appearances on different shows until making the role Chandler in Friends which was his big break in the 90’s. This role not only made his career way more successful, but he also received millions of dollars and created lifelong friends along the way. 11th grader Quinn Smythe watched the show and feels “I liked the Christmas episodes and Matthew was funny and I was sad when he passed”
After acting Mathew Perry became an advocate for rehabilitation and a spokesperson for the National Association of Drug Court Professionals. He suffered from a severe addiction to drugs over the years, especially while filming the iconic Friends sitcom. During 2018 Perry spent about 5 months in the hospital due to gastrointestinal perforation. During his stay he had a close call death due to his colon erupting because of the overuse in opioid abuse. He then realized what he was doing and made a great choice to turn his life around. By doing so he was able to receive the Champion of recovery from the white house office of national drug control. Not only was he a phenomenal actor, but he also wrote, and produced, as well as was the star of the sitcom Mr. Sunshine. Junior Morgan Guardado feels “My fav of the show would be when Joey and Chandler played who knows each other best with Rachel and Monica and the girls lost and had to give up their apartment. I like about Matthew Perry was he was one of the funniest characters on the show and could always make me laugh. I felt when he passed away was a part of the show fell apart, watching it I can’t look at Matthew Perry and think of it normal again. He was a great character.”
A couple days after his sudden death his former castmates from the hit television show Friends, Jennifer Anniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer all spoke on his passing. On November 15 Anniston vocalizes “He was such a part of out DNA. We were always the 6 of us. This was a chosen family that forever changed the course of who we were and what our path was going to be.” One day before Anniston, Cox’s Instagram posts says “I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you everyday” Also posted on November 14 was Matt LeBlanc, “The time we had together are honestly among the favorite times of my life. It was a honor to share the stage with you and to call you my friend. I always smile when I think of you and I’ll never forget you. Which you were generous with, and shared with us, so we could create a family out of six strangers.” Again on November 15, Lisa Ludrow shared a post “Thank you for your open heart in a six way relationship that required a compromise. And a lot of ‘talking.’ Thank you for showing up to work when you weren’t well and then, being completely brilliant. Thank you for the best 10 years a person gets to have. Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for all I learned about GRACE and LOVE through knowing you. Thank you for the time I got to have with you, Matthew” All experienced Matthew Perry sharing his love towards all of them equally.
