Everyone knows what Thanksgiving is, we eat a lot of food and hang out with the people we enjoy being with and it’s a good time. Getting to pig out with no judgment, but what are the best Thanksgiving foods? That’s what I am here to tell you. With the top ten best Thanksgiving foods available.
Starting at number ten we have a rather soft open with brussel sprouts, but specifically brussel sprouts with bacon. This made its way on the list because my family likes them and my mama makes them good. Other than that there is no real reason for it to be on the list, more of an honorable mention but I felt obligated to add them since it’s such a favorite in my household.
At number nine we have bread, which is an overarching term for anything bread related, rolls, baguettes, just normal bread, etc. Just because it’s so versatile, and can be used in any situation, it’s a classic. Homemade is the best being just fresher but if you can’t make it yourself store bought is always acceptable. One of my family’s favorite breads is Hawaiian rolls. Personally, I think that they’re alright, a bit too sweet for me, bread should be more, bread like, they’re not bad but not the best. Homemade bread however is top tier, one of the best.
With number eight stars a classic All-American food, apple pie. Which is just a classic dessert. A good starter, everyone likes apples, and everyone likes pie. Put them together and everyone is happy, except of course doctors who would not be happy as an apple a day keeps the doctors away and one apple pie has on average nine apples. I disagree. There are better desserts in my opinion and for that reason is why it’s at number eight but overall apple pie is a pretty good classic American dish.
Seven might be the most classic food when it comes to the Thanksgiving feast and that of course is the turkey. Personally, I am not a big fan of turkey, even though it’s very popular. Usually, it’s very dry and overall flavorless, even though everyone always says “You need to cook it right.” it shouldn’t be this complex to eat, it’s a bird come on. However, I feel it is a classic, if you don’t have the turkey what do you have? The whole meal is thrown off and it’s just not the same. What would you replace it with? Chicken? Thanksgiving chicken?? Not nearly as exciting as turkey, turkey is a big bird that can feed a family of twelve, it encompasses the American Dream of bigger is better. So turkey, it’s okay, but it’s necessary to have a proper Thanksgiving feast.
Number six is, in my opinion, ten times better than the aforementioned turkey, and it is ham. Ham is just such a better main meat option it’s not even close. Ham is just more juicy and therefore never dry, always has a good flavor no matter how you cook it, it’s just fantastic. Not much else to add, very good meat, would eat it over turkey any day of the week unless we are talking about deli meats in which I would have a turkey sandwich over a ham but in this context of Thanksgiving feasts, ham is better.
Number five is the first side dish which is cranberries. Which I’ve recently learned is somewhat of an unpopular dish but I like them. Specifically the canned ones, they’re like jelly kind of where it molds to the can and you can kind of just slice it and eat it. It’s a very low-effort side but high reward in my opinion.
At number four we have probably one of the most classic side dishes in the whole feast. Stuffing. It can be made in the turkey or you can just buy it boxed and boom, it’s great either way. It’s so simple just bread that tastes good. Especially if you cook it correctly, which of course is cooking it inside the turkey, this is one of the main reasons for cooking the turkey. It gives the stuffing flavor and makes it very yummy in my tummy. Overall a great side dish is mandatory for any Thanksgiving feast.
Now we’re in the top three, the three best thanksgiving foods. Starting off the top three we have the classic, mashed potatoes. This is the second best side dish on the thanksgiving menu. It goes with everything, and you can even make it alone if you want. I think that this includes gravy since they go hand in hand but gravy is also very versatile, it can make the turkey way less dry and actually taste decent. So mashed potatoes are very delicious.
The second best thanksgiving dish would be the Pumpkin Pie. Literally one of the best desserts of all time I think. However it just hits harder at thanksgiving time. Also the harvest pie variation of pumpkin pie is just so good. Hands down the best dessert, its seasonal and tasty. Best dessert and second best overall food for thanksgiving, very pumpkin-y, very delicious, fantastic, amazing food.
Before we get to the main event lets go to the saugus public and see what their favorite thanksgiving foods are. Saugus student Jessica Osbron said “My favorite thanksgiving foods are mashed potatoes and apple pie. The flavors and texture of the mashed potatoes compliment the rest of the meal as it provides a flavor that just melts into one’s mouth and a mushy texture, contrary to the dryness of the rest of the meal, creating a perfect balance. Mashed potatoes guarantee an individual to be full and satisfied. Pie too is an essential thanksgiving food, as there are not many occasions where pie is involved so having it at thanksgiving brings makes it so much more special to the tradition. The apple pie particularly just tastes amazing and leaves a person with utter satisfaction.” Very insightful thank you Jessie.
Now for the final and best thanksgiving food, number one, is mac and cheese. Not the kraft mac and cheese but home made mac and cheese. The best food. Very, very easy to make, just take some mac (pasta) add some cheese, some milk, and boom you got a delicious meal. Simple, everyone loves it, except of course lactose intolerant people and vegans who would not be fans. Except for those specific groups of people however, mac and cheese is the greatest dish. Better than turkey. Even the little ones who are normally picky eaters love it because of how supreme it is. You can also get fancy with it if you really want too, theres tons of recipes out there with extra stuff that will only enhance your mac and cheese experience. It deserves the number one spot easily.
