After saying bye to summer, the coziest time of year comes around and brings us amazing recipes as it finally becomes the season of pumpkin spice lattes and apple pies. The weather begins to cool and the cozy feeling begins to lure us into the kitchen, whether it’s for family gatherings or for fun.
One fan-favorite flavor of fall is pumpkin. Fall wouldn’t be what it is without it! There are numerous ways that you can incorporate pumpkin in recipes. One of the most popular pumpkin items that people will go to great lengths to get their hands on is a classic pumpkin spice latte. This P.S.L. has been popular for years and seems to never get old in the eyes of the public. Everyone goes crazy for the cinnamon, and nutmeg flavors the pumpkin spice latte gives. It’s basically pumpkin pie in a drink. Once the fall drinks at Starbucks come the amount of orders they receive exceeds, making the P.S.L one of their most popular drinks. Another fall favorite is apple cider. Apple Cider is usually served with pie at events like Thanksgiving or other fall gatherings.
Another iconic pumpkin food would have to be the one and only pumpkin pie. There are countless ways to serve it like with loads of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. It also has a smooth texture, making this another reason why it is a fan favorite. Lastly is the delectable pumpkin bread, which is best when it’s homemade. To add extra flavor you can use chocolate chips or raisins, but that won’t be needed considering that it’s already packed with cinnamon spice.
After a nice day of apple picking in the Fall, the next best thing is a warm apple pie right from the oven. Apple pie is often served with whipped cream, custard, or ice cream. The flaky, buttery crust balances out the sweet apple filling, making it the most popular pie. One of the best ways to eat an apple is when it’s coated with caramel and toppings, especially when the leaves are falling and there’s an orange film coating the mountains. The endless amount of toppings like sprinkles, nuts, and coconut make caramel apples so fun to decorate and eat. To spice things up a bit you can add toppings like candy corn, M&M’s, or marshmallows.
We asked around what students’ favorite fall pies were. The majority had said they prefer pumpkin pie over apple pie. Saugus freshman, Milakale Kember admitted that she preferred pumpkin pie because “fruit in desserts is nasty”. She also states that she indulges in her pumpkin pie with “loads of homemade whipped cream”. Even though apple pie is the most popular around the world, pumpkin takes the win at Saugus.
